Cid, Accademia Costume & Moda and Terramedia together for the project Detox Circul Art

Detox Circul Art is the project presented on 8 June 2022 by CID – Consorzio Italiano Implementazione Detox at the Accademia Costume & Moda, as part of the initiatives related to the Salone del Mobile in Milan.

The project, realized with Accademia Costume & Moda and TerraMedia Association, sees the realization of the artwork Plot created by the artist Francesca Pasquali. The materials used are textile waste supplied by CID member companies. DetoxCirculArt aims to promote a change in the fashion system’s approach to the circular economy and to truly sustainable textile production.

Plot: from textile waste to contemporary artwork

Plot is the work of art created in a collective way by the artist Francesca Pasquali, together with Santo Costanzo teacher who coordinated the work of the first-year students of the Academic Diploma of 1 Level in “Costume and Fashion”: Beatrice Catalani, Eugenio Chenna, Antonio Contartese, Noemi DeFelice, Matteo Longari, Sara Jacqueline Morandini, Arianna Regazzo, Daniele Rosati, Aurora Simone and Riccardo Vesprini.

«In this work, waste matter acquires new life, redeeming its essence. It asks us to enter, to be traveled, to discover the infinite possibilities it offers us. These changing intertwinings enchant the viewer inviting him to search along the way for his own cozy corner. It’s an invitation to activate all the senses. Knots, bows, weaves, loops: the material becomes the protagonist, reveals itself to our eyes imperfect and coarse, but deep in its intrinsic beauty». Francesca Pasquali, artist

How Plot was born: a work of art from scraps of CID textile companies

Plot is the result of a workshop dedicated to creative reuse, according to which waste matter not only finds new life, but does so by acquiring a greater value than the original material. Work started in February with an in-depth analysis of the textile production cycles and sustainability strategies of the Detox companies.

To create the artwork, Francesca Pasquali used 350 kg of spinning waste, stock cuttings, selvedges, frasami and sample cuttings originating from the production of the companies of the Consorzio: Antilotex Flock Italia, Archè, Azeta Filati, Berto Industria Tessile, Candiani Denim, Casati Flock, Emmetex, Progetto Lana, Lanificio dell’Olivo, Texcene, Texmoda, Jersey Mode.

How to visit Plot: the DetoxCirculArt project

The collective work “Plot” occupies one of the rooms on the ground floor of the Accademia Costume & Moda in Milan and will be visible from 8 June to 22 July 2022 at the Academy in Milan. The public will be invited to walk and touch the soft weaves of wool and cashmere in a sensory and immersive experience.

«The aim of this work is twofold. On the one hand, to offer young fashion talents an immersive experience in recycled textile material. In this way they will be able to use their creativity towards a “circular thought”, with the aim of experimenting immediately the importance of a real ecodesign. On the other hand, the work aims to involve everyone and to be able to trigger a reflection on the responsibility of safeguarding the planet also through the virtuous cycle of reuse». Andrea Cavicchi, president of Consorzio Detox
