At a time when environmental sustainability is becoming increasingly crucial, Consorzio Italiano Detox becomes ZDHC signatory supplier stands out as a landmark in the domestic textile industry and beyond. Founded in 2016 in partnership with Greenpeace, this unique initiative brings together a network of Italian chemical suppliers and formulators who have embraced the mission of eliminating hazardous substances from the textile production cycle.
A commitment to transparency and eco-sustainability
Consorzio Italiano Detox was born from the desire of visionary entrepreneurs to convert production processes toward eco-sustainability, without compromising the principle of transparency promoted by Greenpeace. Through coordination, guidance and support activities, the Consortium guides the companies involved toward sustainable and ethically responsible management.
Research and innovation for a green future
In partnership with prestigious textile research laboratories, the Consortium promotes the development of advanced tools to understand and improve production processes. Through the Scientific and Technical Committee, which includes direct members of Greenpeace, in-depth research is conducted on the contamination of raw materials, dyes and auxiliaries used in the textile industry.
A network of committed companies
The 37 member companies of the Consorzio Italiano Detox, distributed in various regions of Italy, represent different stages of the textile supply chain. From yarn and fabric production to dyeing and finishing, these companies have joined in the Detox effort to eliminate harmful chemicals from their operations.
A ZDHC membership for a sustainable future
The ZDHC program was created as a response to the Detox campaign launched by Greenpeace after several investigations into contamination caused by the textile, tanning and footwear industries. These industries supply major brands globally, and the program fits in as an international initiative aimed at promoting environmental sustainability in the management of chemicals along the value chain.
The ZDHC stands for Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals and consists of a program initially created at the behest of some of the world’s top brands, who created it by focusing on the principles of transparency and management of chemicals according to an integrated approach of prevention and precaution.

Signed in 2016, the Detox Commitment aligns with ZDHC’s vision to promote sustainable practices in the management and elimination of hazardous chemicals in the textile industry. Joining the ZDHC Roadmap to Zero program, signed last July, demonstrates the Consorzio Italiano Detox commitment to supporting innovation and best practices in the industry.
Andrea Cavicchi, president of the Consortium, says, “By joining ZDHC, we intend to strengthen our commitment to sustainability. We bring with us the experience we have gained in reducing chemicals in our production cycles and look forward to actively contributing to the progress of the business community.”
Consorzio Italiano Detox is an exemplary demonstration of how collaboration and innovation can drive the textile industry toward a more sustainable and responsible future. A journey toward sustainability, fabric by fabric.
