A green and eco-sustainable fashion is possible. To prove it, every day, there are the companies of the textile chain that adheres to the Detox commitment promoted by Greenpeace. Lots of them have decided to join the Consorzio italiano implementazione Detox – CID of Confindustria Toscana Nord, too.
The initial core of companies belonging to Consorzio Detox was twenty. Four years after the launch of the initiative, companies have almost doubled and arrived from all over Italy. Consorzio Detox’s companies, led by Confindustria Toscana Nord, are able to share their experiences and carry on with authority the path started.
A commitment that, year after year, grows and focuses on new themes. From the circular economy to ecodesign, passing through the development of innovative materials and fabrics that represents quality and safety.
Since the start of the campaign launched by Greenpeace in 2011, 80 major companies worldwide have signed the Detox commitment. In this scenario, Italy plays a fundamental role because 60 of these are Italian companies. The principles of the Greenpeace Detox program are based on transparency and the conversion of production systems to an activity that eliminates the use of toxic substances for man and the environment.
The goal is, in fact, to bring back the great brands of international fashion to rely on the safety and quality of Made in Italy.
CID was born to support the companies involved in this process: a team of entrepreneurs and companies, supported by Confindustria, convinced that the future of fashion passes through an ethical and eco-sustainable production.
The results obtained by the Detox Campaign are important: at least 15% of world production (in terms of turnover) has renounced the use of hazardous chemicals, among those reported in 2011.
Since the last assessment published by Greenpeace in 2018 some data are evident. The companies that joined the campaign have worked to achieve the Detox targets but have also obtained positive indirect results: the concentrations of these substances in clothing and water have significantly decreased, Very few remain in circulation.
